Ok, so I have come up with 2 quite a big problems
First of all, fuel tank troubles!! I know that there has been a topic recently on here abotu fuel tanks leaking, and I think mine is doing the same.. as there is a rather strong smell of petrol around the car. So whats the best thing to do to try and find out whats wrong with it?
Ok heres the biggy, I took the car for its first MOT while I have owned it, and unsurprisingly it failed!! It failed on hydrocarbon emissions which I have hopefully sorted and a CV joint within the NSF sphere at the end of the axel having exessive play in it. After ringing many people it looks like I can only buy one from Land Rover for roughly £350!!! As a teenager who is about to learn to drive, paying this is frankly out of the question!!
Anyone got any ideas? Is this a Series 3 part, a Range Rover part, or a Stage One Part??
Cheers. Ollie

HELP
Hi Ollie
Problem one the tank to my mind you have two choices :
1, Buy new tank approx 110 quid
2, If outside of tank is not too bad you can get a tank repair kit from www.frost.co.uk approx 50 quid . Do not trying welding too dangerous
My tank was the same but my was leaking form several places i decided to scrap tank and will buy new one.
Problem two CV joint, the cheapest way is to get another front axle and use the CV joint out of that, only problem with this is you do not know condition of CV joint.
The other way is buy new John Craddocks 335 quid or LRSeries 200 quid.
Hope this helps

Have you found the leak yet? (ie. puddle/stain under tank or wet underside of tank).
I had a strong petrol smell under mine and couldn't find the leak on the tank or the pipes until I switched on the ignition and spotted fuel p#ssing out from underneath. It was a split on the U bend above the fuel pump so only leaked when it was running (and I was inside the car!). So don't rule out fuel leaks from elsewhere (especially when they only cost a couple of quid to repair! ).
I keep seeing complete Stage 1 axles for sale and think that perhaps buying one for spares may be a good idea. They are usually about £300 though so can't justify it. The danger is of course that the components on them are as bad as yours!

Thankyou for your help so far!
Had a look underneath, and the tank seems to be wet around the drainage plug.
Think I may be onto another CV joint at the moment.. so fingers crossed I wont have to fork out all that money!!
Does anyone know where the best place to get Stage One spares from is? Or are there any specialists?
Cheers
