I am getting my Land Rover sprayed with a bed liner. So, it is not with me at the moment and at the shop where it will be sprayed. The project to get this done has gone on a long time - as these custom one off type of things are apt to do.
And we all know what happens to Land Rovers over time - they just break.
Mine no longer starts. Since it is at the shop, I can not diagnose it. The shop owner says they push start it to move it around but the key does not engague the starter. So I say the seloniod has gone bad.
How is the soleniod configured on the Stage One? Is it similiar to a 2.25 Series - as a seperate part off the starter? What does one cost and how much trouble is it to replace?
Since I can not look at the truck myself - any help from you guys would be helpful.

This isn't all that difficult. I seem to remember a tight fit, but that is all. It's a regular starter. I got an old one from http://www.britishstarters.com . . . . it's a NissanDenso and is a lot lighter than the original.

It looks like the Starter and solenoid are intergrated rather than seperate as in a Series III. Is that right?
None of those parts catalogs list a Stage One - so I was cross matching to a Range Rover Classic - is that what you did?

Yeah bro. When ordering from US catalogs, you're going to have to treat it as an early 3.5 Range Rover. What really helps is when you have the Series III parts manual that is available here for download. Get the parts number from there and give them the part number. None of them will deal in "Stage 1" parts because it was never sold here. You just have to do cross-comparisons between the multiple LR vehicles that had this or that in common.

You can check if the starter itself works by holding an old screwdriver across the terminals to see if it turns (make sure the vehicle is in neutral first!). This bypasses the solenoid.
