I am beginning to get a bit of the dread tappet/cam rattle on my very early (Aug 83) 110 V8. This after a genuine 69,000 miles and 23 years.
Typical conditions are either when coasting on very light throttle or accelerating heavily. At all other times, smooth as a dream.
My question is - at what stage do I need to do something about this - and what (or am I past that stage already) ? Total rebuild or just cam & tappet replacement ? If the latter, what else is worth doing at the same time ?

Re: Tappet/Cam Noise
Hi Raggylad, V8 cam's can go a lot earlier than that mate, they rely on regular oil change's to prevent cam wear, if it was me bud i would put a cam, set of follower's and renew the timing chain and fibre gear's aswell.Raggylad wrote:I am beginning to get a bit of the dread tappet/cam rattle on my very early (Aug 83) 110 V8. You will probally notice quite a difference in your engine after this, if it were me i might just whip the head's of and do the valve's at the same time.
