My Stage 1 work in progress

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself and my truck to the forums. Name's Colin. I am in the US Coast Guard and have been messing around with Land Rovers for 6 years now. Here are a few pics of my 83 Stage 1. I bought it in May '06 in Rhode Island and have slowly started to refurbish it. First major upgrade was new paint as the old paint was falling off in sheets as well as huge chunks of Bondo. There was so much bondo in this truck that the seams in the front wings were non existant, the previous owners even bondo's over the front bumper! The truck came from Kenya and I believe it may have been a CKD kit sold new there. It has a late Discovery 3.9 installed with an edelbrock 4 barrel carb conversion and runs like a champ. I will be pulling the engine some time next summer and doing a complete mechanical rebuild on the truck. She has been blowing steam and the oil is milky so I suspect a blown head gasket. So far I have installed Rocky Mountain parabolic springs and OME shocks and it is currently wearing NAS style front wings that were cannabalized from my 72 88" parts truck as the old wings and bonnet were too bashed to re-use. The bonnet is from a 95 NAS Defender 90" I haven't quite figured out how to post pics here yet so here's a link to some pics of the truck for now. Thanks and Enjoy

Hi Huzey, thanks for the welcome. I see from your signiture that your stage 1 has disc brakes. What type did you use?

Hi Colin
I used a Zeus conversion. http://www.zeus.uk.com/land-rover.php
I did a fair bit of research as with the TI Console type you change the hub as well and I was a bit concerned about the stage 1 axle being different to a normal land rover axle and the bearings not matching up. The Zeus conversion uses the existing hub and the disc rotor fits over it. A good conversion, fitted in a day with out any problems. Cheaper than the TI console type as well.
All the best.
Huzey.
