LPG Tanks

Post by ERC4558 »

Hi there,
I am looking at the possibility of fitting some underslung lpg tanks to my 109 CSW and wondered if any of you have done the same or have any ideas to kick around ? the only reservation I have is that I do not want to severely reduce the ground clearance.
best regards Eric

I have LPG on my 110 CSW, and have been thinking about adding more tanks. I only have 50l underslung where the petrol tank used to be, the petrol tank now being one out of a S3 under the drivers seat.
It dosnt reduce the clearance any more than a set of steps or the adjustable tow hitch.

Typical Ive only just recently bought a new fuel tank!
Do you happen to know the size of the tank and how it's fitted?

I dont know the size in feet an inches, but its a 50L cylinder that fits between the rear chassis and almost touches teh rear x member, and when viewed from behind it hangs down to just below the x member.
http://www.navitron.org.uk/autogas.htm This site has a list of tank sizes and dimensions, so that may help.

It was converted in 1999, so there may well be other types of tank out there that will fit the space better.

Thanks Tom,
I think I'll have a look and a measure it would be nice to get two underslung sidetanks and keep the interior looking standard, though I'd probably have to get a smaller gel type battery or even relocate the battery completely

Dont know why you would need to move the battery?
The staton wagons i have seen leave the tanks visible underneath the sills, but the Ex RAF Utility 110 my mate has the tanks in teh side lockers, which are effectively extensions of teh wheel well, so you cant see them.

Unfortunately it's been around six years! since the 109 v8 was all in one peice so I'm working from memory, but I wonderd if to retain good ground clearance the battery box section of the seat box would have to be removed to allow the tankto fit higher up ?

Hmm, i cant see why, I think from looking at mine, the REAR footwell is the bigger problem, as with the Utility there is a nice big recess to put them.

I'm not sure of the outrigger layout of the 110 but if it is like a disco or a R/R then I can see what the diffrence is. The disco and R/R have a nice clutter free expanse of chassis between the two radius arms where a 244 X 860 mm (ish) tank neatly fits, my 109 however has outrigers that are built like brick s**t house walls and take away a lot of the useable space
will definately get the tape measure out after I've finished my night shifts.
Have you any idea of the tank sizes onyour mates 110?

Ah i see, i think from what you saying my 110 is very similar to the 109.
I dont know exactly how big they are but i think they are 80l and fit nicely behind the front seats in the extended rear wheel well, thus they dont impinge on the load area

(Hi Tom)

I have 2 x 45 litre tanks in the Jerrycan side lockers fitted to Ex MOD 110's
The non-side locker types have the same space, but empty :D
