Meaning of "C" Suffix?

Post by arcticrover »

Rimmer Bros codes my engine as belonging to a 1983-1985 Saudi 5spd Range Rover. However, my engine is 20D00008C, and their site only shows A or B suffix for the 20D series. Does anyone know the meaning of the "C" suffix???

Original engine number for the Stage One is between 10G00001 and 12G00001, so yours is probably non-original.
Looking in the Range Rover Repair Operation Manual 1970-1985, it lists the "C" suffix as "Emission Controlled", and compression ratio of 8.25:1
and there is some info on carb needle type and ignition procedure.

Strange. My block is also stamped with 8.13:1 for CR. The mystery remains. . .

My mistake.. looked further in RR repair manual, it says:
>>
Saudi Arabiaand Gulf States 8.13:1 Copression ratio (em.controlled)
Engine prefix ID 20D & 21D
Distributor serial no. 42056 Electronic
Idle speed 650 to 750 rev/min
Ign. timing static 6 degr. BTDC
>>
it goes on about crank angles for decelrating check
