Almost completed project!
Hi everyone,
I've been into Landy's for years, having cut my teeth with a Series III 2.25 diesel pickup restoration project when I should have been paying more attention to my A-levels at school! Funny thing was that even when it was finished, the engine was so noisy it was impossible to have a conversation with anyone in the cab above 40mph....
Roll on a few years and I finally got my hands on a Stage 1 V8 in New Zealand. I bought it online, and then flew down to the south island to drive it the 1000 odd miles back home. While there were the usual old vehicle niggles on the way up, she was a steady runner and didn't let me down.
This then began a restoration project to bring her up to as new, if not better, condition. She's almost finished now, with the bodywork completed, engine sorted out, interior redone, parabolics fitted, and most things generally completed now. Being a rolling restoration as opposed to a ground-up chassis rebuild, things have been missed, with the last major thing to do is getting the bulkhead removed, shot-blasted, zincsprayed, and then resprayed. That's going to have to wait a while longer though.... at the moment I'm enjoying it for the summer.
I'm planning on importing it to the states and didn't realise that I needed to keep the original carb set up along with the air intake system. Otherwise I would have kept it all original for now! Instead I swapped an Edelbrock 500 cfm carb and manifold onto it, which is running nicely. But does have to come off again....

265/75R16's - they fill the arches nicely without any problems

What's the steering like with those, or have you converted to power steering?
I only ask as I have to buy a new set of tyres for mine and am undecided on what to go for. I have standard steering but have upgraded to disc brakes so have wider 7J rims fitted. I don't want to go too wide as it's probably better with narrower tyres for on and off road use.

Steering is just fine - I've kept the standard LR steering wheel, and yes, it does take effort to move it on the spot but when the vehicle's moving slowly it's not a problem.
Power steering is on the list...

It's a LONG story... but the plan is to come over with it in very shortly in the next few months... hence getting the last minute details for importation sorted out....
