PROBLEMS STARTING AFTER REBUILD

I am nearing completion of a long rebuild and cannot get the V8 to start!

It cranks fine - new starter motor

Carbs have been refurbished

New plugs, distributor cap and leads

New amplifier module.

I removed the plugs to check sparking - ok, but only number 1 plug is wet! No fuel getting to other 7 cylinders?

Any ideas or recommended tests greatly appreciated.

Many thnks

Landy Keith

The left bank is over fuelling or No.1 isn't firing.

If it gives all indication of wanting to start and you suspect lack of fuel, then spray something volatile down the carb throats as a substitute for fuel delivery (brake clean, aerostart…). In which case the engine should fire momentarily.

Otherwise go back to basics such as firing order.

Back to basics. Have you got a spark? Is fuel getting to the carbs?
If the answer is yes to both, it the distributor 'timing' correct, ie when the crank is at top dead centre, and piston 1 is at the top of the bore (marking on crank pulley) does the rotor arm point to plug 1 in the dizzy cap.
Have you got the correct firing order.
Make sure that the engine earth is fitted! and making a good connection. Is the battery fully charged.
If all above is correct, then motor should burst into life.

Hope this is of some help and that you get that v8 burble soon!!
