Spigot bush or release bearing

Good evening all,

I have a noise when my foots not on clutch, put foot on clutch noise goes away, been told it's spigot bush and its a common fault.

Will this do any damage or do I need to get it seen to asap?

Is there any other signs of spigot bush other than noise? Or could it just be a noisy release bearing?

Either way I know it's a gearbox out job and I'm as well replacing clutch when I'm at it or am I better just doing it all when it's that stripped down?

Cheers

Common noise on the LT95 - mine's been that way for 19 years - turn your stereo up.

Cheers for that, that's put me at ease a huge bit.

If you put your foot on the clutch pedal and noise appears then it is at the clutch end - load is applied to the release bearing, no load to box.
If you put your foot on the floor and noise is present then it is at the gearbox end - drive is now connected and load is applied to the box, not the clutch.

Engine out is the usual means, not box unless you like living dangerously.

Sorry, I can't believe the spigot bush is noisy when your foot is on the pedal.
I had the same noise in my LT95 box. At least I discovered worn bearings on the layshaft. While repair I found out the thickness of the distance shim was the reason for the failure. Due to a lack of axial preload the bearings became noisy.
I know, it's a lot of hard work to get the box off ...

The noise goes away when I press clutch down.

Oh, oh, I fear it is as I wrote in my post above: worn layshaft bearings. :(

So are we talking about work needed on the gearbox then?

For that job the gearbox has to come off. That's a heavy thing, I think more than 150kg.
When it's on the work bench, the job gets easier... 8)
When I repaired my LT95 box 2 years ago, I first took the engine out of the chassis. I think after the repair it is easier to fix the engine to the box than the box to engine.
There is an overhaul kit available:

Here is a link of my introduction thread with pictures of the LT95 overhaul:

The layshaft bearing on my LT95 has been noisy since I bought my truck - over 10 years and 50K miles ago. At first, I was really anxious about it. But now - I just live with it.

I have been told that even with new replacement bearings, there remains some noise due to the design.

P.S. - Another way to tell if it is the layshaft is to place it in 4th gear. 4th is a direct drive gear and the layshaft is not engaged - and does not make noise.
