Overdrive Oil Leak

I am experiencing a small oil leak from the Fairey overdrive on my LT95. Symptoms:

- When the box is cold, there is no leak
- Once up to driving temperatures, there is a persistent slight leak which appears to be coming from where the actuating rod enters the casing.
- Every time I change the overdrive in or out, a spray of droplets is emitted (covers the handbrake drum, the back of the 110, any trailer and presumably the windscreens of following vehicles)

There doesn't seem to be any way of effectively fitting any sort of seal to prevent this.

Has anybody experienced this ? Is there any solution that works ?

More widely, any ideas for a cure ?

Thanks.

Nick

at least its a good sign that you have oil in there and its not running dry (silver cloud and all that...)

i have a over drive fitted to my new gear box that l am still to fit so any answers would be interded to hear.
can a rubber seal be fitted inside on the shaft to seal the hole?

110? You sure you got the right forum?

Anyway, it just so happens a mate here has the same issue but his is dripping onto his exhaust, so it is smelly.

Cure is to remove the OD and strip out the guts, then replace the oil seal around the actuating rod. Chances are it will be a standard engineering component and not some bespoke part.

While it is out, if you have a blanking plate and bearing, you can block up the hole and continue to use your vehicle until the repair is complete.

See Rovers Down South. George Laird has an o-ring kit for you. There is an o-ring that fits on the shaft you speak of.

Thanks gentlemen !

And for the doubters - mine is a August 1983 110 (one of the very first V8s). It has a lot in common with the Stage One and rather less with Defenders !

OK, I know the model.

No cart springs and the chassis is very different. Engine and driveline are similar. Do you have a Salisbury?

Firemanshort - Rovers Down South seem to have gone off the net. Do you have an email address for them by any chance - or a 'phone number ?
Many thanks.

Yes - Rovers Down South just sold to Safari Heritage (I think). I am not sure if the new folks are carrying all of the old Fairy parts or not.
