Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
I came across this today, new to me -
http://www.stage1v8.org.uk/album/tn/And ... 1.jpg.html
I know the SSE museum has a slide of one of these in use. I wonder how many they had. Looks like the Utility Station Wagon concept is far older than we thought as well!
A bit of digging reveals...
Guess it went abroad.

Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Does anyone know more? I wouldn't mind buying one of these (at some point in the future!!!)
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ink:top:en ? Looks like a utility station wagon at any rate
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Yes I have seen that on ebay a couple of times, doesn't seem to sell. No evidence it is ex-SEB though, I understand the hardtop sides were fitted by a previous owner. Very nice motor all the same.
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Interesting, however UC is a London plate and that was built white by the looks of it, probably ex-Police.
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
I managed to find a couple of photos of one of the V8 utility wagons in service, although I have no idea as to the identity or fate of it, the front looks quite smashed in.
They also had a few 6x6 cherrypickers.

Can't resist posting this photo which I took today of one of my Stage 1s parked next to the very Sandringham 6x6 pictured above!

Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
There's an article about it in March's Classic Land Rover magazine (Issue 22) but it didn't include these old photos of it.
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
I did contact them with the pics which were printed in a follow-up article in the next issue.Geoff wrote:There's an article about it in March's Classic Land Rover magazine (Issue 22) but it didn't include these old photos of it.
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Thanks for pointing that out - I've just read it - sorry, shows how far behind I am with my reading!
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
I am told that the vehicle in the river is actually LDP498W as shown in the initial post, I have some more photos on-way to me.
Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Further, I found this photo recently.
And found at least one of these beasts has survived.
Sadly I do not know the reg.

Re: Southern Electric Stage 1 V8s
Sadly, 'survived' is a relative term - can you tell us anything more about its current miserable circumstances?
