The V8 that I had aquired to put in my stage 1 is knackered. I have pulled the main bearins off and the are warn right through to the bronze backing and the crank is oval!

So, does anybody have or know of a decent v8 going spare? Preferably not to far from South Yorkshire.

Cheers

I have a Stage 1 V8 sat on the shed floor you can have for a 100 Pounds.Came out of a CSW i scrapped last year due to a knackered chassis. It ran nicely and although i did not drive it for any distance she stood up well to a couple of shooting forays around the farms fields. Only done about 70.000. Glencoe has bought my other Stage 1 and is picking it up "Drectly" Are you any near him as im sure he would carry it back for you.

Is a V8 a V8 (specifically Rovers)?

Could I find an old wrecked up Rangie or DISCO and take the 3.9 out of it - clean off the fancy new EFI and other polution stuff, slap on the STAGE ONE Carb and ignition and have it fit and run?

I reckin' the EFI to carb swap would be OK. I am not sure about the distributor and ignition, though.

Hi firemanshort, I took the V8 out of a 3.9 disco slapeed the carbs on it from my stage 1, i also used the front cover of mine so that i could keep the appearence as standard.

I used the original dizzy as well, so i have a 3.9 with point's ignition , works well and have had no probs :D

Tel, Thanks for the offer but you guys are a bit to far south to make it worth while.

I have contacted the seller of that engine on ebay to get some pics with the rocker cover off to see if has a case of the terminal black death.

I have found someone who breals disco's up this end of the country so may be able to get one from him.

Cheers

What is this, why is it a problem, and how does one check for it.

Due to the way the V8 lubrication system works, if the engine is not serviced very regularly the oil starts to sludge and turn black. It starts to coat the surfaces of the engine and is a good indication of the state of wear.

As usual RPI have a good description of thishere.

Its a very good way of judging and engine. I have seen one engine that had so much sludge in the heads that you couldnt see the head bolts of make out the coils of the springs. It was so bad that the oil pooled and only drained from 1 point back into the engine. When we took the rocker cover off nearly a litre of oil spilled out.
