prototype Stage 1s

I have identified 9 of the 11stage 1 prototypes that were supposed to have been sanctioned by Bill Morris. there may be more and i have details of another(UHR873R) that is not in this series though and it may have been reregistered.

have you checked the registrations on DVLA to see if they are still on the road?

Hi there all Stage 1'ers!
I'm surprised that there are not more of these early prototypes around. So I figured that I should draw my straw to the stack... I've got one of those prototypes!


..and I'm quite happy about it.

Hmm. There are only few of them around because only a few were made. Prototypes were never made to be sold and a couple made it into the wild for one reason or another. Most prototypes are scrapped.

What makes you think you have one?

If it one of those listed, how about some more information? Some pictures of the vehicle and the VIN plate would be helpful.

I would like to post some pictures of this prototype Stage 1 that I have but I don't know how. I've seen that there are some photos in some subjects around... how do they squeeze them in?

You need to have the pictures on some online repository, like Picassa.

Assuming you are using a browser like Safari or Firefox, get the static address for the picture. Do this by right clicking on the picture and select something like "copy image address". Or if you are using Picassa, there is usually a field that has a web link. Copy that.

On this forum, in the message editing form, click on the Img button to get this

Paste your picture location, and click the Img button again. That is,

1. You can't just paste the image location without the img tags.
2. You need to right click on the picture and select "Copy Image address"
3. In the forum, click on the img button, paste the image address, click on the img button again.

You have posted the page address. This is not the same thing as the image address. I did not say copy the page address, I said right click on the picture,...

Ok, by some miracle the photos of my prototype Stage 1 has appeared correctly. Now I'm about to restore it and put it in mint condition. The chassi was surprisingly free of rust and the car has not run more than 28000km. I'll be glad to share more info with anyone who's interested.

No miracle. That was just me following my instructions.

If this is one of the prototypes, I would be very careful about how I restored it. Chances are that you may find some odd pieces that are the product of the prototyping process. For example, you may find odd fitting body panels that have the marks of alteration to make them fit.

If I were to find such things, I would be inclined to leave them be as evidence of the vehicle being a prototype. I would also carefully document anything I change or uncover because once you change or "restore" it, you can never get it back to original condition.

Thanks for posting the pictures and for your advise.

I'm certainly not going to pimp this ride. I really don't like the colour for a start, then I'm just going to change bearings, gaskets, piston-rings, etc, etc.

On the panel above the wind-shield there are some marks or small inscriptions apparently from the days it was tested in South Africa. I don't know what they mean.

I've heard that some Norwegian ship owner got hold of this one and "saved" it.
