Not many posts!

Hi all, I've not been on the forum for a while and quite disappointed by the lack of posts! I mean what's happening?

Looking back at some general posts, has Sebking been sailing and canoeing all summer?

Has the register of Stage 1's been set up?

I went to see an interesting Stage 1, it was built in 1977 and had a 911 serial number! Not for me that one, although it was cheap.

Looking at another one tomorrow, going cheap (as usual) so not sure whether to restore it, put a diesel in it or break it for parts. It's a hard top, wont start, been standing for 5 years. What should I do?

As a forum that deals mainly with specific issues and not general chat, I think it serves its purpose fairly well.

Where are your posts?

Your quite right, I'm guilty as well for not having any input! My night of insomnia caused me to react in the way I did.

Having just sold my Series 3 I'm now on the hunt for another project (or two) - daft isn't it, can't seem to be without one on the front drive!

Indeed, the oil gets under your skin as well as the concrete.

not many of us!

there are 502 users here spread across the world, it's a small but exclusive group!

The lack of posts though is certainly made up for the fact that they are so specific and relevant to our Stage 1's it more than makes up for the flannel that makes the majority of other LR forums.

Yes the register is live, but working a 55 hour week means it's a slow burner.

Yeah, I know what you mean, work gets in the way of playing!

Still unsure of biting the bullet and getting another stage 1. I guess I'll have to look at it to make my mind up.

If you want a bit of chit chat, here’s some, but I’ll keep it brief.

It does seem to have been a slow year compared to others. I guess fuel cost are taking its toll so running a V8 is now a Sunday afternoon pleasure trip rather than working with the beasts on a daily basis. Perhaps this will encourage them to become more of a classic vehicle which in turn should push up desirability as apposed to encouraging people to retrofit diesel engines that will destroy any nostalgia.

Stage1’s on the show scene have been as vague as ever with very few if any in attendance. The most I’ve seen at any one time this year was three at Stoneleigh and one of them was mine .

So many Stage1’s of all states of repair have been sold throughout the past year so where are they now? Hopefully most of them have been saved. If anyone who has bought one let us know what’s happening.

If you need any one reason to buy a Stage1 then dare I say it; V8 – does anything sound better than that? All Land Rovers have a downside (or several) but for me, a Stage1 has one; fuel economy, but compared to a regular petrol 4 cylinder is it really that bad? The pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion.

Is anyone interested in setting up a gathering of Stage1’s in any of the organised events next year?

I like that idea, as there isn't really any way off getting a stage 1 into s lr show as an exhibit.
I don't really have time to get involved in arranging something like that, but would support it if it happened (though that assumes my stage 1 is done by then - I'm trying to make it, but finances and time make progress slow)

is gaydon happening next year, I thought it was being replaced by something else?
I don't think I will have my done by then - stoneleigh would be possible I think

I’m planning on giving the LR Lifestyle show at Gaydon (the replacement for the Heritage show) a go next year plus perhaps Stoneleigh. Unfortunately Dunsfold isn’t on next year so we’ll have to see what else tickles our fancy.

Happy to help and support any ideas.

I guess since we are talking about general stuff. Spent last Saturday doing what the Stage 1 was designed for, hauling heavy stuff.

The missus' new toy. Weighs around 1200kg+

Image

Required a 450 km round trip and on a tandem trailer weight of 1600kg including press.

I thought, great test for the new motor and a chance to measure its fuel economy under load over a fairly long distance. Haven't filled up after the run yet and calculated the miles/gallon. Needs to beat 20.

Still, George got us there and back and not a problem. The new motor runs great and has plenty of pull, especially up some of the steep hills we had to climb.

And I had to move the boat out of the drive so we could get the press down to its new abode.

The one for the boat? Yeah, custom build. Boat on trailer is 10.5m. Just over 2000kg without gear on board.

It's a dream to tow, sits low in the road but I have to be careful of traffic humps and driveways.

Gets a bit interesting sometimes if some plonker parks directly opposite the drive since it is longer than the road is wide. I had to widen the driveway entrance and gate to accommodate it :P
