One might be tempted to say to look for it between the front diff and gearbox, but I am sure you mean where you can obtain a new part.

Are you sure it needs to be replaced? Most components on the prop shaft are repairable. If it is rumbling when you decelerate in fourth it is more likely to be the universal than the cardan. That does not rule out the cardan. It is unlikely to be the slip joint. Universals are not hard to repair (if you pay someone else to do it).

For a complete replacement things have to be in poor shape. Remember this is a Series Land Rover where parts are fixed first.

I assume you have been greasing the joints regularly.

If it actually needs replacing you have two choices; either buy one of the new reproductions or take your original to your local drive shaft repairer. They will be able to copy yours with generic new drive line components.

The repairer may also be able to save half of your original part as the front half with the slip joint is the usual problem. I have no doubt that your shaft will need replacing but I'm not sure if it is your only problem or main issue.

The part number you have quoted is the front slip joint and not the whole shaft. I doubt you will find one of these parts on their own. Also that this is only half the problem. This part is the female spline, if it is worn then the male spline will also be worn!

You could try John Craddocks http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/

Nothing comes up with that part number but I have read from others that they have obtained front props from them (around £199.99 +vat last year).

Others have found their solution through contacting their local GKN Driveline distributor to have one made up.

If you have to get one made up an option might be to source a Disco 2 front prop and get it altered to suit the Stage 1 109 dimensions.

It's not a "try to repair" situation. If you go to your local drive line repairer they will fix it with a generic replacement part. Cut the old one off, weld a new one on, replace the other two universal joints and balance the new assembly.
This isn't you local garage or Land-rover place but some one who deals only in drive line repairs.

As previously suggested, this genuine part is hard to get as it is different to almost every other Land-Rover.

Here here!!

And don't expect it to be cheap.

Here we are some what lucky in that there were many of these used by the military and so reasonably good ones can be pulled out of wrecks to extend the life of the part.

Had a couple of the Craddock front props, they soon wore out, got my money back but not good. Have had a standard 110 one fitted, just needs a replacement gearbox output flange (not sure if this is astandard 110 one or needs to be off of an LT95 that was fitted to early 110s) works fine, and adamn sight easier and cheaper to get fixed if it does wear out.

Hi,
If you have not had any luck yet, I would suggest these guys, http://www.davemacprops.com/DMPHOME.html they are extremely helpful and I would think that they will be able to re-build the prop to a much higher standard than a cheap aftermarket job and for less money!
