So is that 6K a going rate for ex-mil in NZ? It would be pretty col to have an ex-mil on this side of the pond.

Depends on condition. 4.5-5 is more usual for good to fair condition. If it has been done up and the engine runs good, gearbox has had an overhaul, nothing nasty lurking in the diffs, brakes, and wheel bearings, and the electrics have had most gremlins squeezed out, then yeah.
