What Engine oils are you using?

Post by sebking »

The book says 20/50. The Rover SD1 Engine (that i have) also said 20/50 in the book.

So what are you all running?

Stick with 20/50 or go for a more modern 15/40?

I think the 20/50 from halfords is a bit thick cold and thin when hot...

I will b running 20/50 in the 3.5
my dads RRC always ran 20/50 as well
but the 3.9 RR's we have run 10/40 (or is it 15/40)
whatever id stick with what LR said, 15/40 was around in the 80's os if that's what they wanted to use they would have done
besides oil pressure was always comparatively low on the 3.5V8 so thinner oil is probably a bad plan

Opie Oils

the Opie oils website suggested 15/40 so this is what raised the question.

So where to get decent 20/50...

I use Castrol 15/40 High Mileage - brilliant oil in my opinion. The oil pressure has stayed consistant although it does get changed every year or 2000 miles whichever comes first. Also in my case it doesnt seem to leak out like the old oil and my engine doesnt burn any either.

Give it a try....

I use 20/50 from Mole Valley Farmers (local agricultural wholesaler); seems to do the job OK in the engine and the gearbox.

I have use the Halfords 'Classic' 20/50 - its OK but a bit pricey. MVF is only 2/3 of the cost.
