Unplug the alternator and see if it goes off.

I take it everything else is ok i.e. no other lights remaining on and that the engine switches off normally and that the alternator charges? Disconnection of the plug on the back of the alternator should isolate the fault so if the light remains on then you need to check the wiring, if it goes off then check the alternator and don’t forget to check that the plug is dry and clean and in good condition. I would say you have got a short in the alternator or around the plug area. Has it got wet or muddy recently? You may simply have a short from the charge terminals across to the field terminal due to dirt, water or the charred remains of the plug! The field terminal (the small one) is the ignition light wire that earths through the alternator windings.

Good luck and let us know how you resolved the problem.
