Does Anybody Know?
As you might know, I'm looking to fit two axles on the back of my landy. I've just measured the leaf springs at the back, and calculated that the wheels would have a gap of around 20 inches between them if i kept the existing measurements. Obviously not that great for the wheels when going around corners! So the questions are threefold :
1) Has anyone done coil conversions on their motors and do they have pictures.
b) has anyone done twin rear axle conversions to their motors at all.
3)does anybody know anything about this :
It's a crop of a picture from landroverclub.net, apparently a LR special vehicles machine.

Hi stretchlandy, what you need to look at is a sandrigham six as these where the stage1 six wheeler's that landrover built and they where leave sprung all round.
It is possible to build it with coil spring's on the back and use a standard 109 inch tub, you have to cut a bigger wheel arch but i have seen it done.
Do you intend to make it 6 wheel drive or is it going to be a 6by4, foley make a wonderful compact drive though unit to give you power to your rear diff that you can engage and disengage on the move, but i have no idea how expensive this is.
Basil

Hi Basil, Thanks for that, The plan at the moment is to go 6x4 initially, as i don't intend to use it offroad (more as a load lugger) however 6x6 will be kept in the frame. I believe the foley unit is around 5 grand, and depending on the old budget, it could get a late inclusion near the end of the project. (i need the time to sweeten up the wife). I'll look further into the sandringham six machine meantime, as this could provide valuable help in the layout of the chassis.

Thanks all.
I managed to get talking to someone with a sandringham six type vehicle, who was able to mail me a picture of the suspension setup.

of course you can.
just visit this page for a comparative view of two different (leaf sprung) double rear axle setups.
If you have any pictures of your vehicle please send them in, my website's a bit sparse at the minute! any Land Rover vehicle (as well as stage 1s and sandy 6s). thanks.
