It won't come out!!!

Post by firemanshort »

I am trying to replace my oil pump gears. Upon disassembly, the idle gear just fell out - like it is supposed to. The other gear on the shaft to the bottom of the distributor stays in the timing cover. I can wiggle it a little and get it to come about 1/8th of the way out and then it hangs hard.

I thought I would be crafty and move to the top end and remove the distributor. I thought it might be binding up on it somehow.

I removed the distributor clamp bolt and pulled - but nothing. The repair manual simply says that you remove the bolt and retaining bracket and the distributor come out.

Is there something else I need to do to get these parts out?

The drive gear will be held in place by poverty and the large tar build up in your engine. Remove the distributor and give it a tap.

The distributor has an O ring seal, plus poverty and the large tar build up in your engine. If it rotates in in the timing cover then you need to pull harder.

Before you move the distributor body, it would be wise to marks its position so you don't have to worry about timing.
