im wanting to find more info on what ive found on my rear suspension on my stage 1. The bump stops mounted to the chassis only give the suspension about 20mm upwards travel before it hits the rubber stopper as in the pictures.
a few people ive talked to already say they have never seen these bump stops before but none of these people owned stage 1's. these stoppers do say on the top "type 530 AEON HOLLOW RUBBER SPRING' and on the bottom MADE IN ENGLAND PATENT No. 755186'
I consulted google with this information and have found various references to these on various cars.
Does anyone have any thoughts if these should be removed and standard rubber stoppers be put back on?

So what's your problem?
If you have knackered springs it has nothing to do with the bump stops. If you read the optional parts list or any factory accessory brochure for Series III it explains Aeons.
I would be asking why you have extra bits seemingly welded to your rear axle tube and where your axle straps are?

It is a wagon body so all im assuming that someone has used it for some heavy towing in the past.
all i was wondering is that if anyone had any thoughts on these for 'normal' useage as in NOT towing large boats/caravans/car trailers etc. will they reduce axle articulation under light loads a noticeable amount to the point where its worth taking them off?
and these plates welded to axle housing? uhh where the brake line is bolted on? are these not original?

If you read the brochure you will see that they are meant for normal use as a gradual cushion. If you search Aeon you should find this to be a feature of most of their bump stop products for most if not all applications, even those for competition use.
Look in the optional parts list and then look at all the excess scrap iron attached to the top of your axle tube. At the same time look up the missing axle straps in the main catalogue.
