New Series 3 Stage 1 owner

Post by landiman »

Hi my name is Rob, I live in the Bury St Edmunds area.
I purchased my stage 1 about 4 months ago as a non runner and was being sold as scrap. I got it home and found that apart from a couple of holes in the bulkhead the body was in good condition and the same with the chassis. The non running i found was due to a VERY rusty fuel tank to which i replaced and also the carbs clogged up with sand as it came from KUWAIT. (The last owner brought the vehicle new then shipped it home when he returned to UK.) After i got the vehicle running i put it through the MOT........... IT PASSED!!!!!! and is now on the road again. I am now starting to rectify the problems and hope it will prove to be as reliable as my 200 tdi disco.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll get some more pix on here as soon as I work out how to do it!! As for the price I paid...well lets just say it was low Hundreds. I believe the guy selling it wanted me to have it, as he knew I would restore it and use it, not just do it up for a quick turnover. He was right..... Its a lovely motor, and I'm very proud of it.
Next job....gas conversion.

Interesting dual cab arrangement. Is it done well?

What's that hanging in front of the grill?

The last owner fitted a 88" hard top which was surplus in a workshop in Kuwait, The hard top was originally taken off an 88 that was destined for the Kuwaiti army as they only run soft top's. It's not a bad conversion and works quite well...... i spotted another with this conversion in a classified advert last week, so it's not the only one.
As for the thing hanging from the grille i think it's the last owners attempt at a radiator muff... it's not on there now, but i've had to make another from plastic for running in the cold weather here. A couple of weeks ago we had a lot of snow and as i'm part of a 4x4 i was running about in the bad weather freezing my bits off cos the temp gauge never got off cold. After fitting my rad muff it warmed up lovely.
Hope this helps

Hi welcome to the forum, chaps on here are most helpfull

I have a question about your truck, it looks to have an integrated sun visior with a safari roof? do you think its a gen part or a local Fab shop effort? I was wondering if it reduced the wind noise

Yes it is a genuine item, but was added by the previous owner to reduce the noise.....and it does! :D
