Try this

Lucas part numbers:

Cap GDC117
Rotor Arm GRA117
Points GCS2117
Condensor RTC3472

Plugs Champion (yuck) N12YC or NGK (better) BP5ES
or if you have and SD1 engine N9YC or BP6ES

Plug leads - don't buy cheapo ones - LR part for ref is RTC6551 (and can be got for £29 or less)

Plug gap .80mm

Timing 6 deg dynamic BTDC at 650 rpm

Points gap set to .36-.40mm then very important is 26 to 28 degrees (52 to 56 if you only have a 4 cyc scale)

Don't guess, just follow the handbook. This will be as comprehensive as you can ever expect.

Alternately, as a used mystery car, change EVERY fluid as a start, not some of them. About 35 litres in total. After a month of driving (not parking) change every fluid again. You will be surprised what comes out. By this stage you should have an idea of what else is wrong and needs repair.

As well;
up on blocks,
wheels off,
drums off,
tunnel access cover off,
bonnet off and start pressure cleaning,
let it dry and pressure clean again,
let it dry and pressure clean again,
let it dry and pressure clean again.

This will remove some of the 30 years worth of crud build up. Only one clean and all you will find is everything you missed as you put the car back together. An alternate-major service on these is long and messy.

lots of 20/50 oil and get mucky changing the gearbox stuff.
Suggest also some penetrating oil on the swivel and diff fillers for a few days then crack this nuts and check those oil levels too (some one will remind me what goes in diffs and swivels)

I concur with all of the above and definitely shop around for the best quality parts that suit your pocket. Invest in the green V8 supplement manual as that is a very good guide although some of the attention to detail leaves a lot to be desired. The engine if original will be based on an early detuned Range Rover and comes with or without Detox (emission control) depending on year. Personally I prefer to use Castrol GTX High Mileage 15/40 oil in the engine. It definitely does what it says on the tin with regard to reducing oil leaks and consumption, and also reduces noise on start up; I was very surprised what a difference it made.

Hi Guys
thanks for the replys, just looking forward to the lighter nights coming so I can get her pulled apart and sorted, she is going to be my everyday drive and tow vehicle for my toy, so everything has to be alright, the 90 was my daily drive but it costs so much to keep on the road and play as hard as i do (two diffs, one prop, a drive flange, and two alts in the last three outings  ), so I decided to get something with a bit of caracter to drive on road only, hence the stage one.
