Water Pump

Post by sebking »

ggrrr

Nice bit of a drive down some local byways this morning and noticed that there was some water dripping - now I've traced a leak to the water pump!

Can't get another until tuesday - but at least I've got the right one in mind (engine is a SD1 so different from the LR one!)

Annoyed - it's one thing after another!

Oh well.

Yes they are different. Precisely which model SD1?

There are about five different pumps that all look similar. There are two for Stage One. Read your parts book.

Yes, this happened to me. So I had to drill them out. Bad Job. I would try to loosen them with small hammer beats.

Good luck

Yes, that cost me a weeks work. The supposed specialist it went to for the previous pump put the 5/16 bolts in the wrong location. This allowed one to rot in place and shear off flush during removal.

It's a long job to remove the timing cover and all the problems you find along the way.

pump

Post by sebking »

ok....

Pump on order and boy do SD1 pumps cost a lot.

So I've dowsed the existing pump yesterday and today in WD40. Also in the old way I've actually nipped the bolts up a bit - tighten and then un-tighten. Will knock them and do a little anti clockwise on each later and then use the rest of the WD40 (super size bottle).

Hope fully new pump will arrive on Tuesday.

Good on ya Seb. That's the problem with these things, they take such a lot to keep em going that when they are you forget the pain ;)
