CV Joints?!

Post by olliebarrett_92 »

Ok I need help! AGAIN!

Just a technical questions for all you people in the know!
The CV joints that are within the spheres on the front axel, are they Range Rover? Stage One? Series 3?

I have looked on the internet and I think that they are Range Rover, can anyone back me up?

Here are the sites I have found..

http://www.lr-mad.co.uk/stage1.html < about half way down under the 'Specs' section

http://www.4wdonline.com/LandRover/Series/Stage1.html < 6th paragraph

http://landrover-online.dk/?L-R_Histori ... %0AStage_1 < second line from the bottom

Thanks very much
Ollie

From memory, they are unique to Stage 1, but similar to RR.

Stage 1 specific as far as I can tell.

Part number AEU1828

a quick google gives the bad news:

£290!

I'd take a look and see who is breaking on ebay and ask if they've got one or just ask here!

I'm pretty sure County/Defender CV's fit with some minor modifications. These CV's are a little shorter and don't have the circlip on the end of the stubshaft, instead they use a bolt on the end to hold the stub shaft in the wheel hub.

I remember reading somewhere (it might have been on this forum) that people have simply machined the splined wheel hub down a few mm and cut a groove into the stub shaft of the County/Defender CV to fit them on the stage 1 with the circlip.

Anyway, one thing I know for sure is that the Stage 1 CV's are the strongest out of all of them. County/Defender CV's are weaker and you will break them much more easily than the originals fitted to the car.

I'm actually yet to break my CV's which is suprising, considering I have a front locker with 33" tyres and i'm not shy with the throttle!!! It will probably happen one day...

Front Axle...

Post by sebking »

I remember where one is...

I traced a previous owner of my SW. He has a spare (old) front axle having put the recon one on that there is on it now.

I'll see what he wants for it - he's got a pile of other bits too.

You think that's dear? Add another 100 GBP minimum, multiply by 2.5, and if the total exceeds $1000, expect a call from the Excise man when it arrives. Then repeat for the other side.
Local new stock: NIL.

If you check the various suppliers you may need to be clear about what you are getting. I vaguely remember that when I looked at Craddock, they were offering the CV and shaft assembly as per the parts list. Whereas LR just offer the CV.

Invariably, when you pull out your CV, the shaft will be flogged at the diff end. I haven't found an after market supplier for the shafts.

If someone does find some precise specs on modifying 110 CV's please post. I was wondering this myself but thought I must be missing something obvious.

Early R/R & Disco CV joints (RR 1969-1987 (to VIN EA305589) - Disco 1989-1993) - 23 spline inner, 10 spline female outer (no stub axle)

AEU1828
Stage one S111 - 23 spline inner 24 spline outer stub

AEU2522
County and 200Tdi Defender - to axle #20L48865 1984-1994 - 23 spline inner 24 spline outer stub (same as AEU1828 but a slightly longer stub)

And here are the crap ones... The info is a bit confusing for some of the later RR/Disco ones - can anyone clarify - LR may have multiple part numbers for the same CV.

RTC6862
300Tdi Defender (1993 - current) - crappy (tiny) 32 spline inner, 24 spline outer stub - from axle #20L48866

RTC5843
Later model S1 Disco (Non ABS - 1993 - ?) and RR (Non ABS - 1987-1989 (VIN EA305590 - JA624755))

RTC6811
Later model S1 Disco (ABS) and RR (ABS - 1987-1989) - with 10 spline outer

TDJ000010 - possibly also STC 3051?
Range Rover Classic 1992-end ABS Disco 1 - with 24 spline outer (I think).

STC3204
P38A Range Rover - don't know splines

TDR100790
S2 Disco - don't know splines

I don't know for sure, though - I was just told that.

So for us it only really leaves the 110 CV (non ABS etc.) as the target.

I will have to get the Commonwealth to donate a couple to my cause and see what can be done.
