Don't ask me how as I'm still trying to work it out myself . . . anyway I put £30.00 of diesel in an empty tank, drove it 500 yards home then loads of white smoke
I've drained the tank; now my friend has 20 litres of fuel for his oil heater!
I then disconnected the pipes from the fuel filter and drained them.
Cleaned the spark plugs. Anything else?
I’ve searched the web but can only find advise regarding filling a diesel with petrol.
Please feel free to berate me, I’ve only been driving for 25 years and don’t even own a diesel vehicle!!!

Thanks for the advice, engine started, loads of smoke as predicted but it was ok because it was bonfire night!
Unfortunately I’ve now got a fuel leak. Petrol is coming from the pipe that enters the fuel filter; I’d previously disconnected it to drain the diesel.
I disconnected the pipe again and found that the bulbous end of the pipe had worked loose. I pushed it back on the pipe, it seemed secure and tight, and reconnected everything but alas it’s still leaking.
Do I need to replace the steel pipe that’s attached to the fuel hose?

old hard rubber pipe gets disturbed, result leak.
I'm not quite sure where you problem is but it's probably just a bit of hose needed (and some clips - I'm never confident of push fit fittings where there is flammable liquid!)

Has the black hard plastic pipe pulled off the metal pipe (which screws into the filter housing Glencoyne is on about)
If so the black pipe is a standard size available from most motorfactors. You can heat it up (gently) and make up a new pipe pushing the old metal fixings into the heated pipe. Or see if Craddocks have one. It wont be cheap but peace of mind.........

If you look at the bottom right picture on page 7 of your website, it's the steel pipe that enters the fuel filter that's leaking. The nut is a hollow one that the pipe passes through. On the end of the pipe is a rounded funnel that the hollow nut tightens up on and seals the pipe in place.
Unfortunately the rounded funnel is loose so when the nut is tightened it comes off.

Thanks for the advice, it turned out to be an olive that wasn't sealing properly, total cost .55p! Unfortunately I've had to use a metric one as nobody seems to sell imperial ones anymore . . . unless someone knows different?
