Petrol Which Type ?

Post by sprey16 »

Hey

So my question is which fuel etc 91 95 98 ? do these v8 landies run on it ?

do they need any additives ?

thanks , main reason if i pick one up i bet it needs gas to get it back !

Any petrol will do. When things went to unleaded, the advice for Rangies, (same engine), was just to retard the timing by a couple of degrees, though you don't have to worry about that just yet!

The general rule with these older engines is the higher the octane the better, simply because it will burn a bit cooler. But, having said that, regular unleaded petrol will be fine.

I use 95. The power difference is noticeable cf 91 and idle is much better too.

I'd keep away from bio-fuels with high concentrations though.

But then again, if there's no petrol you could always use vodka :)

Have fun Aaron. Remember though that smaller isn't always better in the off-road world, but parent are always right.

My Stage 1 is 25 now and hopefully will still be going strong when you are ;)

Never mind Aaron, I've often thought that a smaller 4x4 would make practical sense for me too, but the lure of a V8 and the load bed of a LWB seem to always stop those thoughts (there is no logic to it! :) )

Just to add to this in case anyone else has the same question. You shouldn't need to change the timing on the Stage 1 engine to run on unleaded as it is a lower compression version than the Rangie.

Mine seems to really notice different octane ratings. Basically Unleaded - more economical, but less performance, LRP/Leaded - Good performance, less economy, SuperPlus Unleaded - Rocket ship, but will bankrupt you in minutes!

Geez! 16! you got to a stage one at the same time I did!
6 years and I still have it!... crazily enough as a daily driver!

Although since yours is still on petrol I would imagine that it is sending you broke. LPG and 12:1 compression fixes that :D My car is cheaper to run than a 1998 Tdi Discovery

my first impression was , Mmmmm , oneday !
dad looks at me and goes i know you like it , just not yet , haha

anyway i drive this at the moment
have already done the bottom end bearings a week after i brought it , not to my driving , and other things

also followed a 110 defender today, was weird tho had a uk number plate in yellow.

you guys are welcome to delete all this , if you count it as spam on a 4x4 forum im sweet with that

Frankly I would think the Stage 1 would be a safer vehicle than that power machine.

Weight for weight the V8 is far less powerful than your car. On the other hand, it has no air bags ;) Come to think of it, nor does the latest Defender (on the passenger's side a least).

Not to be a pain, but with Stage ones and parts drying up the way they are, they'll be even rarer by the time you get around to it. You're young and don't have the usual big expenses of a) kids, and b) a mortgage, (mind you, neither do I!), so you should sell that go-fast machine and get a Landie while you can!

Or in 2028 you'll be one of those sad-looking people at a Land-Rover show going, "Yep, I shoulda got one when I could have"!
