Block Hugger Headers

Post by meph373 »

I have found block hugger headers for the Buick 216. Do you think think these would be a solution to getting around the tight spaces in the engine compartment? Has anyone tried this?

I've heard of folks cutting lots of important parts in order to install tubular headers.

Eric,

They look like they might work. The main issue with the usuall tubular manifolds is that they are too close to the spring shackles.

Would mean fabricating the rest of the exhaust system I guess!

This looks like a good option. If you opt for the block hugger option, you might want to consider the MGB stainless steel huggers, as displayed at the MGB Hive:

They're quite a lot cheaper and look shapewise quite similar. I don't know the grade of stainless steel used on both the MGB and the PopBrown ones. You may want to ask both sellers before you make your choice.

I remember hearing somewhere that blockhugger/shorty manifolds are only marginally better then the standard cast manifolds. So it may be worth while asking some questions on the v-8.org.uk forum to see what they think.
