Post by jonnyboy »

Hi All

I ahve almost finished putting my station wagon back together and am having problems with fitting the bumper.

The question is:

How do I get this

OOOPPPPSSSSS.

Looks like some one has welded up the mounting holes

Best bet is to remove the grill panel offer up the bumper and mark the hole positions drill them through the chassis then get some long bolt to go all the way through and bolt it together.
Other option is to offer up the bumper and weld the braket plates to the chassis.

Hope that helps

Hi Darren

Thanks for the reply. The holes are there just hidden, plus the bumper would never fit the front dumb irons as the lower bracket on the bumper is angled up at 45 degrees. I have been told there should be some mounting brackets , as i bought it as a pile of bits I have no way of knowing what they look like.

There should be 4 more plates one top and one bottom on both sides that bolt to the chassis with long bolts and then the bumper bolts to them.
I think off the top of my head they are about 75mm x 75mm square with 4 holes in

Hi Darren

Thats what I thought. I assume the upper ones will be flat and the lower ones will have a bend in them to match the angle of the bumper.

Cheers Tel

I cant imagine they are to complicated, might be possible to make them even with my engineering skills.

See if this works. Bottom brackets were beaten to get the bolt out. Get the jist though.

Tel you are a star.

They look nice and simple. What thickness are they?

I have a load of galvanised shims knocking around from my silo building days so should be able to make some.

Thanks
