Restoration
Re: Restoration
Nothing very interesting, just fitted a new brake fluid reservoir, clutch slave cylinder, and plumbed in clutch.
I bought a Borg & Beck clutch slave. The spacer came from L.O.F
Did the usual cleaning of the clutch pipe and fitted to the master
Finally got the correct clutch flexi hose, so on it went and attached to the hard pipe from master, and hard pipe to slave.
Slave bolted in place and hard pipe connected, bleed nipple up top ready for bleeding
I guess PO must have made up the hard pipe in copper as looks home made. Perfectly fine though and after cleanup, see no reason to change it.
I then filled up with Dot 4 and broke out the Eezi Bleed. No leaks and clutch pedal feels good. Guess I'll find out for sure when I try to change gear when it's running again.

Re: Restoration
Just got back from the sand blasters.
Wheels...
...and what we're very rusty exhaust manifolds
I'll have to get them all cleaned and painted a bit sharpish before they start rusting again.

Re: Restoration
Having actually examined things a bit closer than my cursory glance, I see that the weld Eagle eyed Mike pointed out (LRUK Forum) is a bigger problem than I realised. Whatever was obscuring the "repair" was blasted away during cleaning. Not only is there a perforation in the weld, there's a blooming great hole underneath it!
It looks to have been deliberately ground out as the hole is too neat.
This leaves me with an unwanted dilemma as those manifolds are obsolete. I might find an old used one from somewhere if I'm lucky, or an aftermarket version at great expense. I have my doubts about how well I might manage a repair on a cast iron part. I could go for headers etc., but there's the issue of what fits and doesn't to work out. Then there's the ever increasing cost of project 'Money Pit'.
Anyone know what exhaust system fits a Rover 3.5 V8 in a stage 1 109V8 engine bay?

Re: Restoration
I have early Disco1 exhaust manifolds on mine. Very tight squeeze and the pipe work at the bottom is different (larger diameter). But it fits.

Re: Restoration
Have you tried offering the RH manifold to the LHS? Potentially it's only the flange ring position that's different.
Re: Restoration
No, but that would leave me without a RH manifold. You have me confused

Re: Restoration
RH manifolds are cheap and plentiful throughout the world, the opposite condition to LH. So if your RH will bolt up to the LHS... The flange ring on the engine pipe is a loose fit, so if all clears the chassis...
One from a P6B could suffice however you would need a custom length engine pipe as the flange position is similar but not close.

Re: Restoration
Since the wheels I had sandblasted will rust if not protected, I got cracking today with the epoxy primer.
First off gave them a good clean with detergent and then jet washed. A quick rub down to remove a couple of odd patches of left over crud, then painted on rust converter before degreasing and spraying.
I still have the fronts to do when this coat has dried. Hopefully tomorrow weather depending.

Cliff hope things are still progressing and look forward to some updates.. I've nearly finished my axles...
Re: Restoration
Probably sitting by the fire if the photos I'm seeing from there is anything to go by
Meanwhile, it's a warmish 28ºC here at the moment. Probably a gazillion degrees in Oz though!

Re: Restoration
Yep, waiting for better warmer weather so I can get back to work. I struggle with health during winter and it's too damp and cold in the garage tent. Very frustrating being in lockdown and all.

Re: Restoration
What with a long wet winter and cold spring, compounded by health issue flare ups and covid lockdowns, there has been no progress on my project since the last updates.
I did make a short YouTube video of unwrapping it and inspecting before resuming work but that was about as far as I got. https://youtu.be/9mXMtV7ErHU
Anyway, back out today to hopefully get back to work. I'd left it with the V8 back in place, new clutch slave connected up, new fluids and bled. Engine oil filled up but I hadn't primed the pump; it was packed with vasaline but I'd left it there. Today I made myself a priming tool, a length of rod coupled to a female coupling I took off the old dizzy. I used it to drive the pump with my hand drill and made sure oil was finding its way around the engine.
I whipped off the rocker cover to check oil was feeding through the rocker shaft.
Not a massive amount done today but hopefully the restart for the next phase of work.
