Fuel Pump
Fuel Pump
being unfamiliar with Series Land Rovers, can anyone tell me if I should hear the fuel pump running when I turn on the ignition? Mine (a new aftermarket replacement) was making an obvious and loud pumping noise but has gone silent. I'm wondering (before I pull it apart to investigate) if the pump has packed up, or it's gone quiet because it now has fuel in it and not air? It's not starting at the moment and I'm sure it's due to fueling. It had a new tank fitted and then a pump but has only had a couple of gallons of fuel in it for starting. I'll be getting stuck in and checking if fuel is reaching carbs, but thought I'd ask about the pump sound since it was so obviously noisy before going silent. Cheers.

Re: Fuel Pump
What kind of aftermarket?
Solid state pumps tick regardless. Points type as with SU build up pressure and hold.

Re: Fuel Pump
It has an aftermarket version of the original 109 V8 type (PRC3343), bolted and earthed to the chassis, and has fuel inlet and outlet pipes. Very simple pump as I understand it.

Re: Fuel Pump
Then it should tick all the time.
Re: Fuel Pump
Quick update. The aftermarket stage 1 V8 fuel pump fitted by PO less than 3 months ago, used only to get it started and on and off the transporter, is as dead as a door nail. Absolute junk! I've ordered an OEM replacement, so hope that fares a bit better.
I have no idea why the world is so keen to buy crap from China just because it's cheap; what about quality?

Re: Fuel Pump
Why does Britpart exist?
Re: Fuel Pump
Fitted new pump today. Turned key, listened to it pumping the fuel up to the carbs, waited a few minutes to make sure it had gotten a decent amount of fuel through, pulled out the choke, and cranked; started first time!
Well, that's first problem out of the way.
