Hello/S1 Rebuild

Post by 5988 »

Just got a stage 1 project, currently have a 1960 S2 as main car, and a 68 S2 as a longer term project (needs a chassis).

as bought
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1981-LAND-ROVER-1 ... 240%3A1318

got it home last weekend and reomved some bits, now got some more parts off- engine, gearbox, wings, doors, seabox, sills, floors have been removed so far.

chassis is in a reasonable condition, only needing bulkhead out riggers, but the others have so many patches they are getting replaced. the chassis rails have patches which may get done a bit better when i get there.

axles, steering, suspension seem ok but will get taken apart and checked.
its missing quite a few parts
Exhaust down pipes, manifolds,Radiator,Front and Rear props and maybe a few other bits i dont know its missing yet
some pics

The cut in the bulkhead is where the previous owner had made space to get the auto box in, theres also a similar one in the seat box to be repaired

Howdy and good to see your project.

Looks pretty straight overall and it's probably about due for a strip down and rebuild. Good on ya. :)

You've got some good space to play in there, I'm looking at it with a little envy.

Where are you based?

it isnt as strait as it looks, virtualy every pannel is bent,
based in Lincs, uk
having plenty of space is very usefull :)

the RR is likely to be donating an engine to the stage 1 soon

bit of an update
Got most of the front axle back together last week, just stoped by a supplier sending me 2 pairs of LH brake shoes and needing 2 wheel bearings replacing
Front springs now have new polybushes fitted
Started to clean up the chassis and almost imediatly put three holes in the dumbIrons
Also now got its Gearbox (after a long fight to get it to part company with the engine) ...rather heavy to lift into the back of a landrover
and a Radiator that needs a new core

Made a bit of progress -
Started on the front axel, then stopped again after deciding to replace Riako bushes...then found stage 1's have different ones >:(
so after two weeks the axle is still a pile of bits-hopefully back together then refitted next weekend ...been saying that for three weeks though

started to attack the chassis

Bulkhead outriggers replaced
tomorrow paint the front of the chassis, refit the relay, steering rods, brake pipes - and fix the footwell

Also now got a gearbox, Radiator and frame , hopefully will have a transmission tunnel coming and need to go and get the flywheel from the dead V8
Now got an engine from a 81 RR as well-will probably need a cam, followers, carbs rebuilding but nothing major.
