would be good if you could bring the stage 1 -
have something to use as a reference for putting it back together then, the S3 parts book is useless really for working out where things go

- the linkage from what i remember is an aluminium rod on the top of the gearbox, and a linkage between the lever pivoting on it and the OD, no where near as complicated as the RR one

part of the guys description of it which i liked

" It was a bit of a dog to be honest and drove worse than any 4 or 6 pot series I've owned"

along with

"I checked the transmission oils and it had no oil in the transfer box at all, the drain plug was dry as a bone" ummm....I may have problems with the gearbox sometime .....

some serious chassis deterioration between those pics and me getting it ....or it was very thin then and the holes just hadnt shown up

hahaha Those lights on the bonnet are hilarious.

It is very similar to my own in the first pic's.

No oil in the TC??? I wonder how blue those bearings got  Probably best to leave alone until something blows, otherwise it might need a whole rebuild.

ye it all feels fine, had the output housings etc off
but im not sure now
I have another good box (but with damaged casing) so could build that one into this casing
There is a genuine LR recon plate on the bellhousing (but i think that will be before this happened, im sure no one would have done a factory recon on a cheap ebay car)
Ill probably end up rebuilding the TC with higher ratio gears at some point anyway

Spent a while working out what the holes in the bonnet were for ....no i know

Mine never was an MOD vehicle, it was a Java green truck cab with 3/4 canvas when new, someone made it look like that ....and that MOD paint is a real  to get off ....its resisting virtually everything i attack it with

And i realy wish it was as complete when i got it as in those pics ....all the bits i have struggled to find, or still am struggling to find are there

I did wonder why there was only one petrol tank, no side access doors, and no split charging system or warning console in the centre console.

The military paint on mine comes off real easy. Maybe they went and stuck some two-pot blend or Hammerite on? Seen that kind of thing done before.

Our army never ran stage 1's (or not as normal vehicles, they may have been in some special roles, but ive never seen one)

One day im going to go to Gaydon archives and get its history from them ,
But for what i can gather it sat around along time between been made and sold

When i do ill post on here, as if anyone else is interested i can look theirs up at the same time

And get its history from the DVLA, at some point

I keep seeing these late model 110s and 300TDi Defenders coming up that have never been used. Seems it was something peculiar to Land Rover.

Our army had hundreds of them. So did the ozzies. That's why they are pretty common around here. Especially now that the army sold them all off and bought Pinzgaurs.

I just thought, the Iraqi army bought heaps of them too.

Alan, 300 TDIs are still beeing built, they are ROW trucks, rest of the world, and a mix of TD5 and 300 Parts, some are on the road in the UK I have a frend in SA who has one, he loves it choped in his TD5 after he lost confidence in the ECU for overland trips

5988 - I will get down with mine soon, been doing some running repairs on it
