Woo hoo, Land Rover at last!

Post by choc-ice »

After waiting for weeks my Stage 1 was ready to be collected on Saturday. I had a very nice drive home, about 100 miles on motorway, A roads and a few towns. The towns seemed quite narrow.....

Cruising at 65mph on the motorway was quite easy with overdrive engaged and the 235 tyres probably raise the gear ratio a bit too. Just over 18mpg which I think is quite good?

Here it is at home with a list of jobs sprawling out ahead of me!

First list of jobs are:
Take out the carb restrictors
Fix the heater fan
Unjam the heater control on the block
Change the engine thermostat
Fix the windscreen washers
Fix the reversing lights
Paint 2 of the wheels from white to limestone
Fit a new Lasalle headliner
Fit seatbelts in the back and a 3 point on the front and rear centre seats
Get some rubber mats

That should keep me quiet for a few minutes

Good stuff. Nice looking wagon :)

18mpg is about right. Mine ranges from 17-20.

When you change the thermostat, it may be a good idea to give the whole engine a good flush too. That may fix the heater issue you mentioned.

Good plan. Is it just a hosepipe in both directions or is there some kind of coolant flush you can get?

My last few cars have been aircooled!

Radiator flush is what you need. You can get it from pretty much aynwhere you'd normally get oils and stuff.

Follow the instructions carefully, the stuff can be nasty. And put the right amount of antifreeze to suit your local conditions.

Do it from the top heater hose to make certain you get to all the engine. And fill the engine from there too.

I can take some pictures on the weekend, it's too dark before and after work at the moment

The interior is standard other than the Lasalle headliner and new rubber mats.
