Introduction and Stage 1 Rebuild

Hi everyone,

also wanted to take the chance to introduce myself:

I'm Michael and have just bought my first Stage 1. It's a project and will be delivery mid of August - this is when I will post also some photos. Although originally coming from Germany, I'm living now in the UK in Hertfordshire and can't wait the car to arrive. So far I have done some work on my Stage III Diesel, which is about to get sold soon. Also I'm owning a Series 2a so I have some experience already but it will be my first total rebuild.

I'm planning to strip the car completely down and doing a nut and bolt restauration. As the plan is to go back to Germany in some years, I'm doing everything now rather than waiting for something to happen when I'm back so the axles, gearbox and engine get all a complete overhaul. Having 2 kids (3 and 6) I'll have to see, if I can afford to do all on my own or if I send some major parts to specialists like the engine, gearbox etc...

What I know so far for sure is, that the car will get a new (galv.) chassis and bulkhead. The old one is not this bad but as I said, I do it properly now rather than later from abroad again where it's difficult with customs etc. to source the parts.

So whoever wanted to have a chassis (some welding needed) or a bulkhead (pretty solid!), give me a message. I'll post some picture soon as well of course in the WANT / SELL section.

Cheers!

Michael

Hi all,

now it's time to post some pictures as promised. Engine is turning but not running - think I need to get the Carburettors out and clean / check them. So far he got a new starter, fuel pump, ignition coil and a brand new battery. But so far no luck to convince the engine to run! :)

Btw: I will certainly install a galvanised bulkhead and chassis as I want to keep the car forever and therefor I am investing a little bit more than maybe needed although the bulkhead is in a really good condition. I will offer it soon for sale, it can from what I see used as a RHD and LHD bulkhead as there are openings for the steering column also on the other side. The chassis need some work on the outriggers but the main components seem quite solid. Also this one will be soon for sale! If someone is interested, give me a PM please!

Will update you guys soon again!

Michael

that's not far away. Are you having also a Stage 1 or any other Land Rover?
