Stage 1 V8

G'day

Just welcomed a 1983 Stage one Isuzu wagon into the family. It's in good original condition with 130,000km on the clock. Pulls like a freight train and sounds like a real diesel, planning to use him for family adventures around this great country. Solid chassis and bulkhead, straight panels all finished in Masai Red.

Can't seem to attach photos as file size is too big. Any tips?

That looks like a serious Kangaroo Bar there!!

What does that tiny badge on the lower part of the wing say? I have seen a few on the Australian and New Zealand Stage One's but I can never quite read them.

Interested to hear what kind of speed you get from the Isuzu lump? Being NA, would it run out of gasp at the top end?

There is a fellow over here that has just started importing Perenties - which I think have this same engine in them. He has found a small aftermarket turbo that bolts on very nicely and is tidy in the engine compartment. It is only a small turbo and he says that it is not an overwhelming difference but it does give the truck "legs" on the highway. He can cruise at 75mph with his Discovery and Defender V8 friends no problem.

Bushranger and Perentie have slightly different gearing. 4x4 has little problem throughout the rev range and the engine continues to pull well beyond vehicle maximum stability being reached, whether empty or laden. Though they're not quite as quick in recovering from a high speed gear change as a modern 4x4.

As the majority of Bushranger and Perentie 4x4 have stability issues you probably wouldn't want to give them anything extra. SRV and another similar variant are the only ones with improved stability hence the only 4x4 with PAS. If you were going to make the Isuzu motor any quicker then you'd only do it on SRV and the easiest would be to use the standard Isuzu turbo as used on Bushranger and Perentie 6x6.
