Hello from the Netherlands

Post by Maik »

Hi everyone,

My name is Maikel (Michael), new to this forum as a member. Owner of a 1980 Stage One since a few months. Having sold my '84 One Ten V8 back in januari and being content at first not owning a Landrover, I started looking for Landrovers again. At first for a 109 diesel or petrol, but then I stumbled upon this one.

It does need attention, but overall I think it's in pretty good condition. The previous owner liked the car so much he overdid on accessories and checker plate. I stripped it and now it has only a snorkel and a lot of holes in the body.
The chassis needs a new layer of protection. So i'd like to take the body off for easy access in time.

Cheers for now,
Maikel

Hi, welcome aboard. Be interested to see how the snorkel is plumbed in below the mudguard and into the engine bay.

Does your snorkle run in through the heater matrix?

Have you replaced the heater vent with the snorkle?

The previous owner installed the snorkel. So the air for the heater comes in through the snorkel. The heater is still in place.
I'm thinking to take it off, it's only optical and not really usefull I guess in the Netherlands?

Yeah, I would. If anything, it will impede the air flow for the fan and make its job harder. The only reason I would see for this is if you are in a really dusty place, like Australia.

Normally, some one who puts a snorkel on one of these will put it in through the top of the mudguard and then through the side of the engine bay, behind the front tyre.

Two weeks ago We had a weekend in Germany at Fürsten Forest, a former military terrain, turned into a 4x4 heaven.
Such a great day, I really gained self-confidence and confidence in the car. I prepared myself in driving offroad by watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcTTPV9JmIE
This really helped explain when and why to use the sticks in the car.
I've got some pics:
