Finely my Series 3 Stage One (Belgium)

Post by Fastpaddy »

Hello,
After resorting my Series 2A, I'm now the proud owner of a Series 3 Stage One (a dream came through thanks to Christophe)
I'm planning to start the restoration around September of this year (if my wife lets me, maybe a little bit earlier :) )
So, be ready to answer some questions while I'm restoring my Stage One.
The first question is about the color, thanks to the great sunshine the color has worn out, we think that it was a Mid Gray car but we aren't sure.
If anybody has an idea, all help is welcome.

Hi, welcome aboard.

It is hard to tell the colour. What is the colour under the bonnet or inside the doors?

Have fun. It is a fairly simple machine with some interesting quirks.

You may be right with mid grey. FYI, on the forum "le temps des séries" there's a lucky Belgian bloke who owns a grey hcpu stage one, no idea if he's far from your area ?

Slight hi-jack.... Did Land Rover make a POPPY RED Stage One?

I always thought my truck was Masai - but I bought some Masai touch up paint and it is a totally different shade.

Is it brighter or darker? Has yours changed colour from UV, etc?

My truck is lighter than new Masai Red - it is the typical mix-match of parts and age. For example - the doors are new and were repainted in 2006 and the wings are of unknown age - I think they were replaced at some time in the truck's life. The shade variations may all be due to sun and age - it makes it hard to determine the original color.

Yes it always does. Paints here fade faster that anywhere else because the UV is much harsher in NZ. Fact of life for us really.

Unless you are returning the whole thing to the original colour, it may be best to take a colour sample in and have it colour matched under a spectrophotometer.

Yesterday I've started with the restauration of my Stage One, the color will be Mid Grey.
