Hello from Christchurch, New Zealand,

I have just recently bought Donk, a 1986 ex-NZDF Stage 1, as far as I can tell he is very original and other than a little rust in the drivers footwell he is structurally in mint condition. I have owned land rovers in UK but this one is rather unusual.

I intend to keep him as original as possible but also use him as a daily drive.

Thanks for the welcome. My main concern is the ignition system, I have downloaded a pdf which retrofits a twin point distributor in place of the electronic one fitted. Have you had any experience with this?

Why would you want to replace the electronic ignition with points? That is going backward in time.

Instead, stay electronic and go Pertronix or HEI. Far more reliable and a whole lot easier to tune (as in tune once and forget for the next couple of years).

it was an army modification which I found on the net, mod b 270, back in the UK my 90 is fitted with megajolt and the 100" hybrid has megasquirt so I know about the joys of electronic ignition especially a programmable one but I've only been here 3 weeks so had to ask the question.

It was first registered in Palmerston North if that helps. There's also a kiwi on the rear body too

I removed a radio rack from the rear and it had a label with 5 Logs Regt printed on it
