Hi, I have one of the eight Stage Ones converted to Fire Appliances by Jennings of Crewe in 1981 for Cheshire Fire Brigade. I'm a member of the Fire Service Preservation Group and maintain a register of the seven that are still on the road.
I've currently lost touch with DMB 901X which was sold by the service last year, does anyone know of its whereabouts?

How do you find ex-fire engines / Land Rovers for sale?

I see them occasioanly on eBay - often restored and in parage condition - or completely stripped of thier fire service equipment.

Is there a great governement liquidiation website were the fire service off loads its retired gear?

Unfortunately, the chances of now being able to buy equipped or even "lettered up" Fire Appliances direct from the Fire Service are few & far between. Most Services now have a policy of completely stripping vehicles prior to disposing of them by auction or else send them for Scrap.
Sadly, this situation has largely come about by a minority abusing the purchasing system or using former Appliances for the likes of Hen Parties etc.
I have actually known my vehicle since it was new and I was 14! I first sat in it as a child and was using it some 25 years later in my role with the Fire Service Cadet Scheme. I was very lucky to be able to purchase it direct from the Service after a long campaign to preserve the vehicle and after many "audit trail" and purchasing requirements had been satisfied; it was a very up hill battle at times. Changes in the disposal process since that time have meant that I was unable to secure a similar vehicle recently.

Hi, the vehicle for sale on this site is an after market conversion, which I understand took place when the vehicle was two years old. The eight vehicles operated by Cheshire were supplied new to coachbuilders Jennings of Crewe. These were all Station Wagons and interestingly the rear side windows can still be seen from inside behind the side panels that were applied. If you wish to look at the photo of my vehicle in the Gallery, there's a brief history of the Cheshire Land Rovers.

Many thanks for the update on 901. I've been in touch with the dealership and been able to provide photos & information that may be of interest to the new owner. I'm trying to get an update on the remaining vehicles 903, 904, 905 & 906. Mine (902) & the last remaining with Cheshire (907) are going strong. The trail has gone cold on 903 since the Power Station closed, I've not heard of 905 since January & had no news of 904 or 906 for quite some time. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers
