another masai red stage1

Post by lee8 »

hi all, have been following the site for a while-bought a stage1 back in may
but have only just registered
i bought the landy of a fellow member of the series 3 owners club-am told
it has lots of history with the club
it started of as a pick-up but its now a hardtop, its been fitted with a high compression v8(still on carbs)and a 5speed box out of a range rover but it seems fairly straight and original.hope to have it up and running for some landy shows next year.will get some details on the register soon
happy new to you all

Hi Lee,

There are a lot of Stage 1's here, both civilian and ex-military. There are also a lot of the V8 one-tens still kicking around and a few ninety's, although their owners tend not to part with them.

The army replaced their stock of Landies with Nissan Navaras for standard/light duty work and Pinzgauers for command and control stuff. That introduced something like 350 Stage 1 V8s onto the local market, in various states of dis/repair. Remembering that these vehicles had seen about 30 years of military service and some had a hard life. Many did not make it this far of course and I have seen stacks of wrecks that have been stripped of anything useful. The worst wrecks I saw had done service in Bosnia.

By and large the techos in the army did good work on them, to keep them going. Although some of the bodges left some to be desired on mine, especially in the electrical department.

Where in NZ are you going?
Alan
