Some of those bits left behind look fairly lumpy too. Onwards and upwards :)

Looks like a fun project and something that is very original. I read through the article regarding the building of the vehicle by Land Rover (great reading and thank you for posting) and it reminds me of the Series 111 Game. The Game was sold in Australia in the late 1970's and could of also influenced the styling of the 88" Stage One. Certainly the colour choice of the Game and the flared wheel arches framing those wider spec rims and tyres have been used on the 88" Stagey. These styling cue's were all original Land Rover spec on the Game here in Australia. I am not sure if it was sold in other parts of the world in this specification but other forum subscribers will be able to clarify that.

Good luck with the restoration and keep posting the progress images. I have attached an article on the Series 111 Game that I scanned from a magazine that I purchased as a 13 year old and still own today. I was cleaning up in the shed and came across it a couple of weeks ago by chance. It makes for some entertaining reading and I would be interested in knowing if other forum subscribers agree with my ideas.

Regards Warrick.

Interesting article.

The 88" Stage 1 prototype was more a BL exercise in "what if". They never went into full production although there were a small number made for the Jamaican (IIRC) police. There were too many issues with the gearbox and drive shaft angles for such a short wheelbase. That is one reason the Defender SWB came out as a ninety and not an 88".

The Australian thing was similar to other efforts, such as the P76 they mention (my memory suggests they were/are more popular than the one-eyed writer gives them credit for). Other examples include the replacement of the V8 with diesels in the Stage 1, the Perenties, etc. These had little or no influence in other countries.

Image Engine is now running and sounding sweet :) An exhaust to fabricate, some body repairs then paint.

Looking for any thoughts about wheels that would look good on this truck?? The white 8 spokes have to go . .

I would've thought standard series wheels would have been best.

What kind of brakes are you running? I assume the front end is CV and you are using drums. If you've got discs, you might need to look at Disco 1??

Its still running on drums, I tried a set of standard wheels on and they looked lost under the arches.
The lro article says it was fitted with wider wheel when they built it. I'm not sure what 2 go for.
