Hello - thought you might like to see some pictures of a 25,000 mile stage one having some engine work and bodywork brought up to scratch
The landrover had some running problems due to worn camshaft and so once we had removed the engine I decided to rebuild it and replace parts where required , then it kind of snowballed into a partial restoration .
Looking forwards to any comments and I have got lots of questions to ask .

while yuve got it in bit, could you do me a pic of the radiator ...im trying to find one....but it would be usefull to actualy see what im looking for
Hello everybody - over the weekend I will attempt to post more pictures including the radiator . What I would like to know is what disc brake conversion people would opt for in an ideal world - I already have wolf wheels and tyres from Whitham specialist vehicles ready . The aim from my point of view is to keep it looking as stock as possible externally but to have a more tractable and easily driven vehicle .
Keeping it looking as original as possible is also important with any minor mods being of the bolt on type rather than needing bodywork and chassis altering .

the rocky mountian conversion is very good, my brother has this on his 88 ...also expensive
someone else also makes a cnversion bit from what ive been told cant fit normal series wheels
There is a very good tech file article in the Land Rover Monthly magazine about a Series disc brake conversion. I think it was in either August or September 2009 edition; I’ll confirm tonight if you like.
From memory the kit was made by GM/AC Delco and it was around £800 so not cheap. The snag however, is that the kit does not fit the metric wheel bearings and stub axles so it can only be mounted using the earlier imperial ones. I’ve no idea at this time if the imperial stub axles and wheel bearings fit the Stage 1’s. As far as I know the conversion still allows for the standard wheels to be fitted.
I’ve always struggled with the decisions LR made at the time of developing the Stage 1 when they have gone to all the trouble of developing unique front axles and steering geometry that they didn’t fit disc brakes or provide power steering. All I can say is that they must of had shed loads of obsolete 2.6 brake components kicking around that they needed to use up.

This was really annoying - the washers that go under the head bolts contained invisible cracks until torqued up and were revealed after about half an hour . This one was bad and another four were barely visible .
