Firing Order

Post by cjastbury »

Hi
yet another task to sort out.
Has anyone got a diagram showing the HT layout from the cylinder head to the distribution cap for a 110 V8 County?
I bought a new rotor arm and cap, only to find that she won't start, so I'll put back the rotor arm first, try this, then finally put back the original cap.
She turns over, but does not start.
I have the HT Leads setup as in the manual, but there's no life!
Cheers

The piccy below is a few of the details lifted out of the Stage 1 V8 Supplement. I presume it's identical to the 110 V8. Apologies if this is already what you have from the manual.

Have you checked the coil by the way? I rebuilt my V8 and thought I had a similar problem. Went over the diagrams over and over but was sure it was correct. Eventually swapped out the coil for a new one I had lying around and she started.

HT lead layout

Post by cjastbury »

Hi
Thanks for the diagram, I put the HT Leads as shown in the diagram, she now turns over, but does not start. As I had changed the rotor arm and distribution cap, I decided to put back the old set, but I'm unsure if the timing has been altered. Is it possible to alter the timing by 'just' changing these two items. If I did change the timing, would the car still start? and finally how can I check if the timing is out?

Land Rover hits the road

Post by cjastbury »

Hi to all who assisted.

can you believe it, but a distribution cap ordered from my local car shop proved to be faulty, it was only two months old, on closer inspection it could be seen that the rotor arm had made deep grooves in the electrode things, and worn away the plastic that is on top of each electrody thing, unsure to exact name. Anyway a trip down to a Land Rover specialist for a new rotor arm and nice blue dist cap solved the problem.
Now she's running perfect....

For futire reference there are 2 heights of rotor arm. The one for the electronic dizzy is slightly taller and does exactly as described above. I had the same problem :-( wrong rotor arm trashed a genuine lucas dizzy cap.
