Battery box lid

Post by jonnyboy »

HI Guys,

Does anyone have a cover over their battery?

The reason I ask is that:
  • a) I dont !

    b) There is no sign of there ever being a catch on the front of my seat box to hold it like there is on the passenger side.

    c) The parts catalogue lists one but no one stocks it.

I haven't got one on either, but when I bought it there was a clip on the back end and some small hook on the front. Don't know if it was originally on it..

I now have fitted a piece of 18 mm plywood to cover the complete seatbox fixed with 6 small bolts in rivenuts. (with opening over battery offcourse) Looks very clean, though not original.....

Do you mean actually on the battery itself, or a lid on the seat box secured by the over center clip on the front? Sorry if it seems a daft question.
I started off with nothing, and still got most of it left!

It's a different type of clip. From memory the seat box would have a slot in the top front edge. I can take a photo if you want to know how it looks.

Well that's different to mine. Maybe because I have County spec. and the seats
are different? I'll try and remember to take a photo at the weekend.

Different to mine as well. Mine has a slot on the back that the back edge of the seat box sits between and an over center catch on the front of the seat box that catches the lid. It slides under the seat base. Hope that makes sense.

Nice one Tel,
I had one the same colour on an S plate but had a Daihatsu 2.8 Diesel engine. Put new inner wings on it and a new headlining. Got a huge dent in the bonnet when a side opening trailer tailgate swung round and smacked it one when I pulled over to let a tractor pass down a country lane.

I've put some photos of my battery cover here: http://stage1v8.org.uk/battery_cover/

There's a bit of flare from the flash but you can still see what it's like.

My battery box lid is exactly the same as the one in the pics, slide in under the seat base and with an overcenter catch on the front of the seat box.
