Carb / Inlet manifold restrictors

Post by jonnyboy »

Has anyone removed the restrictors from their inlet manifold?

I have just pulled the carbs of mine and cant see any way of removing them.

I havent pulled mine out but they are supposed to be held in by a spring circlip inside, needs a good pull, like what holds a cv on a shaft.

Mine are out. I didn't do it, but I understand it has to do with needlenosed pliers and some elbow grease.

Take carbs off, and poor some EP90 over restrictors. Then pull / pry them out . I made a puller that allowed me to pull & turn with some extra force
applied by a long metal bar chained to the upper end of the puller.

It wasn't all that hard, just took a bit of patience & grease (oil)

Hi Marijn

Welcome to the forum.

I never thought about lubricating before trying to remove them.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome...
The other thing about pooring some oil is you can wipe off tiny bits
of aluminium afterwords to prevent them falling down into manifold
wich is something you don't want to happen :)

My Edelbrock/Holley still sitting on basement floor until original equipment is back together and inspected . . . Does anyone have this setup and know which brackets/adapters to buy for the throttle and choke?

I have a 465 and edelbrock performer on my stage 1. It all goes in sweetly. I made a bracket for the throttle cable myself, very easy to do, it bolted on to one of the bolt holes on the top of the manifold. The throttle cable attaches straight on to the carby linkage without any mods. I just ignored the choke, didn't end up needing it anyway. The reason I ignored it is my stage 1 is 24 Volt (ex NZ Army) and the automatic choke on the holley is 12 volt, so I just loosened the thingy on side and wound the choke out so it stays open all the time. I didn't bother going to the 'truck avenger' carby as here in NZ they are over double the price of the 465. I did however buy a 4wd kit for it (haven't bothered installing it yet!)

Would you mind sending a pic of the throttle bracket?

will do. just off to work now, damn it.

It won't be until the weekend arctic, but I will do it. Its pretty simple, a piece of flat steel with a couple of holes and the original bracket off the old twin carb setup ("s" bend thing with a slot in it) bolted to it.

My dad had an old saying K.I.S.S

keep it simple stupid

I have been considering taking the restrictors out of mine, but before i do anything, is there an easy way to check if they are still in there and which set they are, Ive heard that there are 2 types??
Thanks, Tom

If you remove the air intke ducts and lift up the throttle body and open the butterfly you should be able to shine a torch down and check if they are fitted. I seem to recall seeing them in a manual as a plate between the carb and the manifold with one serrated edged restricting hole, but mine were the same as jon's photo, think I managed to get mine out by using an allen key hooked through one of the holes and gripped this with mole grips and wellied these. If yours is a 110 I don't think the restrictors will be fitted though.
