Lucas Classic

Post by map1275 »

Has anyone tried the Lucas Classic range yet?
As good as what they were, just the current product in a new box or as bad as the mystery brand copies?

Defo better than the unbranded copies that don’t fit properly, fall to bits in your hands and burn out/melt, not nesiserally in that order.

No way as good as the old 1950’s vintage UK made Lucas stuff, probably on par with an average day of BL era Lucas which generally lasted okay - plenty of classic cars still have it (though the bad day stuff from that era earned them the Prince of darkness reputation).
I think it’s basically the same as any Lucas stuff made in the last decade but their current marketing dept seems to be having a go at promoting it more probably due to the ever growing classic car scene and the flooding of the market with pattern junk.
If your after the best quality OE style stuff that’s currently easily available that drops in like for like then it’s the way to go. If you want something to the old 1950’s Lucas quality or better then your better using something else like machine switches and stuff but it won’t then look original and might need chopping about to fit.

It seems, though they are branding it Lucas classic, they have now ditched the distinctive shaped U from the Lucas name so if it’s still got the squared off corner then it’s genuine NOS Lucas and thus probably a bit better.

Lucas Classic is finally starting to appear in Australia. Had chance to compare a new toggle switch out of the box and a new mystery brand. Some minor material/finish differences but otherwise apart from having LUCAS and the part number stenciled onto the plastic, no difference. The Lucas item was made in Thailand. Though you could only just read it as the label was so poorly printed.

Both items had already done a lap of the globe having been sourced ex UK. And they were both still cheap.
