HCPU Fuel Tank

Post by Zazwaldo »

Hi

My fuel tank was totally dry Of fuel and looks like a new Land Rover part when chassis was replaced. However with sitting empty for years it’s holed.

I bought a 599234 tank bearmach which has a sticker that says it’s a c type on it. It doesn’t fit!

Is there a difference between 599234 suffix c diesel tank and 599234 post ‘72 fuel tank - from looking on line they appear to be different prices and can be ordered separately depending where you look (I.e. same vendor has both tanks listed as Differing options)

The pocket for the chassis rail seems to be in the wrong place, the mounting point front and rear don’t match the chassis properly and the filler neck is at slightly wrong angle compared to the LR one I removed.

Is there any uniqueness to the hi-cap fuel tank.

I’ve cut the tank mountings to try and make it fit but it’s just not right. I’ll use it to repair the original tank at some point in future but if I buy another tank at moment want to make sure I get something that fits.

Any support or guidance much appreciated

Shouldn't it be a NRC5829?
Lock ring sender unit, fuel return piping same as diesel.

Thanks for the suggestion, Nrc5829 superseded by 599234 From what I can see

Doesn’t mean they’re exactly the same though

599234 has lock ring and return pipe

I wasted money on a BRITPART 599234 some years ago and could never get it to fit.
The general format was correct. However the mounting hole sizes and the lack of effort to have the holes in the correct place was dismal. Holes in the reinforcing plate weren't even aligned with the panel they were welded to. The filler neck was close enough. Fuel supply and return elbows were burred and pointed in the general direction of where they should. Plus the single coat of black paint couldn't possibly have been thinned any more without being just solvent.
Ended up finding a used genuine item.

Have a plan I believe.

Filler tube is 90.5 degrees where the original was 93degrees or so.

Have cut the brackets off, have mocked it up close, the. Will weld brackets back on. Using the filler tube location as the datum point.

Heat the filler tube once it’s hard mounted and try bending it to where it fits the best.

Will try to remember to take some photos!

Mods done and new tank is in.

Now fits better than last one!

Filler tube is rotten however - anyone have a good 2nd hand spare of the tube before I buy a new one?

Tank will be out again for painting but at least I can start it easily off the key now.
