body panel/seat box jointing putty

Post by harry potter »

what is the name of the grey jointing putty that is used to seal the seat box to the rear bulk head and the floor panels to the door rails?

the gear box is in and now in the process getting the seat box back in. cannot find anything on Halfords website suitable

where can I get it from?

would silicone (bathroom stuff) do?
thanks

You don't wan't an adhesive which is what most silicones are or double as.

The Australian sealant was close to Blu-Tak. Something like Butyl will do, though it's rather messy. The key point is that many panels were designed to be removed if required. Check that the areas you are dealing with didn't rely on foam tape, such as the tunnel cover itself.

I was going to suggest using a soft foam tape. I have used for similar in the past where water ingress is not likely.

Otherwise a filling compound that does not set hard like Sika Cleartec.
