Hi all,
Last week I changed the front brake shoes (with Bearmach's) When they were on the drum didn't fit back on. The previous brakes were made to fit, because I had a good look and saw a bit of the metal was grinded off. Both at the top and bottom. It doesn't seem normal to me, but I made them to fit too, otherwise the drum wouldn't fit.
Anyone experienced this too?
A week has passed and the brakes are starting to squeak and one of the brakes seems to stay against the drum. I can hear and feel it (just) break when I drive slowly.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Maik

Re: Front brakes
I'm not sure what you have ground off.
Unless the shoes were radius ground from the outset, then they have to be bedded in. The leading and trailing edge of linings frequently needs to be dressed on aftermarket replacement shoes. There will always be a certain amount of scrape audible at low speed. If the brakes are grabbing or the drums getting hot after very short drives, then you have a problem.
Assuming the linings are not oversize, the adjusters are backed off fully and the shoes have been centralised, the drum should push on.
